In my post ‘Vegan Tips 101’ I listed B12 as one of the important factors to consider when starting out vegan. I cannot stress this enough! I’ve read plenty comments in vegan facebook groups where people say that they do not supplement B12 and they ‘feel fine!’. I’ve also read comments on B12 forums which seemed fuelled by a bunch of hypochondriacs. If I hadn’t had a problem myself, my head would probably still be spinning!
Tips for new vegans.
Why do vegans avoid eating honey and using products containing beeswax?
Whilst not always a hugely pressing concern for many vegans, it’s still an issue of animal exploitation. Bees do not make honey for human consumption but they also are not harmed or killed in the process unlike with eating meat. It can be a grey area for some vegans and it’s true we aren’t all exactly the same on our moral stance.
If you are new to the vegan scene you might have branched out and bought yourself a cookbook or you’ve started looking at recipes online. If so, you may have come across an ingredient called ‘Nutritional Yeast’. Sound appetising? Probably not!! It’s also sometimes referred to as ‘nooch’. Trying to decipher or conjure up an image of what this mystery ingredient looks like will probably be futile.
Whether you are new to the plant based life, thinking about going vegan or having to cook for a vegan visitor, this section of my blog will aim to share some tips for creating easy, satisfying meals. I’ll also share some product swaps to help you on your way.
